Redakcja Journal of International Criminal Justice zaprasza do nadsyłania zgłoszeń do numeru specjalnego czasopisma pt. "New Technologies and the Investigation of International Crimes".

Zagadnienia, których mogą dotyczyć artykuły opublikowane w tym wydaniu to m.in.:

• Whether new technologies can assist in the investigation of atrocity crimes, and the risks inherent to such novel approaches;
• New technologies and the epistemologies (and methodologies) of human rights fact-finding;
• Whether investigators may perceive digital evidence as especially vulnerable to attack, and the impact of that perception on investigations and fact-finding;
• Whether new technologies introduce new forms of bias into investigations or accountability, and how this risk might be resolved;
• Whether new technologies may prioritise the investigation and documentation of particular crimes at the expense of others that may be less amenable to digital documentation;
• Whether new technologies may facilitate broader accountability for atrocity crimes by, for example, helping to investigate and document potential corporate involvement;
• Whether new technologies can democratise the publication and analysis of evidence on the basis, for example, of ‘crowdsourced’ investigation the risks and opportunities posed by crowdsourcing in this context;
• Whether the move towards digital evidence, accompanied by a rise in deep fake technology, is challenging trust in digital evidence, and in turn findings based on that evidence;
• Whether digital evidence is changing perceptions on the relative strength of traditional forms of evidence;
• How digital evidence, particularly online open source materials, is being litigated and judicially evaluated in various domestic jurisdictions – from collection, to processing, analysis and presentation in the courtroom;
• Whether atrocity investigations in the digital age require a new skill set for investigators;
• How best to ensure the safety and security of sources, investigators, and data when dealing with digital content and conducting digital investigations.

Z uwagi na pandemię Organizatorzy planowanej w Instytucie Nauk Prawnych PAN konferencji „Pięć lat obowiązywania Europejskiego Programu w Zakresie Migracji” zmienili formę wydarzenia i obecnie zapraszają na cykl seminariów online pt. „Lipiec z Europejskim programem w zakresie migracji". Call for applications: Kırımlı Dr. Aziz Bey IHL Moot Court Competition & Advanced Summer School

Istanbul Center of International Law, Turecki Czerwony Półksiężyc and MKCK organizują moot court i szkołę letnią. Oba wydarzenia odbędą się online w sierpniu i we wrześniu br.

Do udziału w konkursie może zgłosić się każda instytucja, w której naucza się międzynarodowego prawa humanitarnego. Drużyna składa się z 3 studentów studiów licencjackich lub magisterskich, którzy nie ukończyli 30. roku użycia. Po przesłaniu aplikacji, wszyscy uczestnicy konkursu wezmą udział w szkole letniej.

Zgłoszenia należy przesyłać do 17 lipca br. Szkoła letnia odbędzie się w sierpniu, a finał konkursu w dniach 7-11 września.

Opłata za udział w konkursie wynosi 100 euro od drużyny (jeśli zostanie wpłacona do 1 lipca)/125 euro od drużyny (jeśli zostanie wpłacona po 1 lipca).

Call for papers: Workshop "International Patron-Client Relations in Secessionist Conflicts: Empirical Insights and Conceptual Innovations​" (Zamki Dornburga, październik 2020 r.)

Uniwersytet Friedricha Schillera w Jenie organizuje w dniach 1-4 października br. warsztaty pt. "International Patron-Client Relations in Secessionist Conflicts: Empirical Insights and Conceptual Innovations​", które odbędą się na zamkach Dornburga. 

Tematy wystąpień mogą dotyczyć m.in. następującej problematyki:

• Identification of patrons and clients in a conflict (agency): patrons are mostly assumed to be states supporting secessionists. However, similar roles might also be assumed by IGOs or NGOs, such as diasporas or human rights groups; and patrons might also support central governments. Conversely, clients are rarely just puppets, but agents with distinct preferences and varying degrees of autonomy. Identifying patrons and clients presupposes definitional clarity.
• The balance of dependence, autonomy, and control (or power) between patrons and clients: this varies among dyads and over time (symmetry).
• The motives why patrons support clients despite the drain of resources this implies and the motives why clients seek the support of patrons despite the autonomy loss this entails (motives).
• The types, degrees, and duration of tangible and intangible resources patrons and clients exchange: this varies strongly over time and across cases (resource exchange).
• The effect patron-client relations have on the course and the outcome of secessionist conflicts (impact): scholars widely assume that such support can tip the balance in favour of secessionists while a lack thereof dooms a secessionist bid to failure. They also assume that such relations influence the conflict calculus of the conflict parties. However, they hardly ever consider different degrees of support over time and across cases, support for central governments, and (methodological) challenges of measuring the effectiveness of support.
