Call for papers: Católica Graduate Legal Research Conference (Lizbona, wrzesień 2020 r.)

W dniach 24-25 września br. w Lizbonie odbędzie się Católica Graduate Legal Research Conference pt. "Blue Planet Law". Organizatorzy są zainteresowani zwłaszcza trzema tematami:

1. Nature's value

2. Climate and biodiversity

3. Ocean

Do udziału w konferencji zaproszeni są doktoranci i osoby posiadające stopień doktora.

Zgłoszenia (abstrakt do 500 słów i bio do 100 słów) należy przesyłać do 15 maja br.

Organizatorzy pokrywają koszty zakwaterowania w czasie konferencji.

Przewidywana jest publikacja pokonferencyjna.

Call for papers: 2020 Congress on Have Fundamental Rights gone too far? (Porto, maj 2020 r.)

W dniach 7-8 maja br. w Porto odbędzie się kongres "Have Fundamental Rights gone too far?". 

Organizatorzy zadali następujące pytania w związku z tematyką wydarzenia:

• As we extend the number of fundamental rights, are we diluting the concept of human dignity underlying them?
• Likewise, does the conferment of "rights" and some form of legal personhood to animals and even non-living entities undermine human dignity and the very notion of fundamental rights or is it a necessary evolution of those same ideas?
• Given the multitude of cultures and identities of peoples and countries part to international conventions, on one hand, and the tendency to regard fundamental rights as at least partly universal, what role is there for the margin of appreciation?
• Tension is also possible not only between national jurisdictions and international entities and legal systems, but between international entities protecting fundamental rights. How should this potential conflict be addressed?
• Fundamental rights have an inherently counter-majoritarian genetic code. They impose themselves upon the legislator and the State. As we enlarge the number and scope of fundamental rights and consequently diminish the range of option available for political and democratic deliberation, are we creating a directing Constitution, which imposes excessively? What room is left for politics?

Wydział Prawa Universidade Portucalense Infante D. Henrique oraz Instituto Jurídico Portucalense zapraszają na konferencję pt. "Have Fundamental Rights gone too far?", która odbędzie się w dniach 7-8 maja 2020 r. w Porto.

Referaty mogą odpowiadać na następujące pytania:

Call for papers: ILA Regional Conference 2019 (Braga, wrzesień 2019 r.)

W dniach 19-20 września w Bardze w Portugalii odbędzie się regionalna konferencja ILA pt. "The contribution of case-law international courts and tribunals to the development of international law". Zgłoszenia na konferencję powinny dotyczyć następującej tematyki:

• The contribution of international courts and tribunals to the methodology of international law
• The contribution of ITLOS to the development of the Law of the Sea
• Investor-state dispute settlement and its impact on International Investment Law
• Recent case-law of the ICJ and its significance for International Law
• The contribution of international courts and tribunals to the development of procedural rules

Zgłoszenia (abstrakt wraz z CV) należy przesyłać do 15 czerwca br. za pośrednictwem strony internetowej konferencji. Opłata za udział w konferencji wynosi 200 euro (przy płatności do 30 czerwca; potem 250 euro).

Call for papers: Socially Responsible Foreign Investment under International Law Conference (Lizbona, październik 2019 r.)

Católica Global School of Law zaprasza na konferencję pt. "Socially Responsible Foreign Investment under International Law", która odbędzie się w dniach 24-25 października 2019 r. w Lizbonie.

Przykładowe tematy, które Organizatorzy chcieliby poruszyć w trakcie konferencji to:

• Business and human rights, including the assessment of the application of human rights in horizontal relations or the protection of consumers’ rights;
• Investment transparency, including the necessary procedural transparency and the adoption of good governance practices, anti-corruption standards;
• Environmental standards, including environmental stewardship, the protection of biodiversity, climate justice, and investor’s ex ante and ex post responsibility;
• Investor-State arbitration and socially responsible investments;
• Universal civil jurisdiction against corporations and the jurisdiction of parent States of transnational corporations;
• Social impact bonds and the promotion of fair trade and sustainable development;
• Compliance, accountability, and enforcement of socially responsible standards, including State and corporate due diligence.
