Call for papers: Demi-journées des jeunes chercheurs de la SFDI 2021 (online, czerwiec 2021 r.)

Réseau des jeunes chercheurs SFDI organizuje w 2021 r. po raz kolejny dwa seminaria trwające po pół dnia, przeznaczone dla młodych naukowców:

1. 3 czerwca 2021 r., temat: "Le trafic de migrants en droit international". Osoby wybrane do tej części będą musiały przesłać pisemne podsumowanie swojej argumentacji oraz nagranie wideo swojej prezentacji (do 15 minut).
2. 10 czerwca 2021 r., temat: "Exilés de guerre et droit international". Osoby wybrane do tej części będą musiały przesłać tekst o objętości 20.000-30.000 znaków ok. dwa tygodnie przed terminem prezentacji. Następnie będą miały 10 minut na zaprezentowanie swoich uwag, nad którymi odbędzie się 20-minutowa debata.

Jeden z uczestników seminariów zostanie wybrany do przedstawienia swojej prezentacji podczas dorocznego kolokwium SFDI.

Zgłoszenia (maksymalnie dwie strony streszczenia swojej prezentacji i CV) należy przesyłać do 15 lutego 2021 r. Zgłoszenie może być dokonane w j. angielskim, ale od uczestników wymagana jest bardzo dobra znajomość języka francuskiego, ponieważ większość debat odbywa się w tym języku.

Call for papers: Yearbook on the Law of the Sea

Redakcja Yearbook on the Law of the Sea zaprasza do nadsyłania zgłoszeń do pierwszego numeru czasopisma, który poświęcony będzie zagadnieniom "Law of the Sea and Definitions". 

Autorzy najlepszych artykułów, oprócz publikacji, otrzymają również egzemplarze komentarza do konwencji o prawie morza (I tom).

Zgłoszenia (w j. polskim lub w j. włoskim) należy przesyłać do 30 stycznia 2021 r.

Redakcja Forces Migration Review planuje wydanie specjalnego numeru czasopisma, poświęconego tematyce "Non-signatory States and the international refugee regime". Numer miałby ukazać się na przełomie czerwca i lipca 2021 r.

Tematy, których mogą dotyczyć artykuły mieszczące się w tej problematyce to m.in.:

• What are the reasons for States refusing to sign or ratify and what are the repercussions and implications for States, the international community and displaced people?
• What alternative mechanisms for protection (including signature to other conventions and instruments) are in place in non-signatory States and how do they resemble and differ from the protection provided by signatory States?
• What can be learned from both the failures of signatory States to ensure protection, and the successes of non-signatories in so doing?
• What influence does the Refugee Convention have on non-signatory States?
• How do non-signatory States engage with and help shape developments within the international refugee law regime and its institutions?
• What lessons can be drawn about the complex effects of international conventions through an examination of the role of non-signatories vis-à-vis the Refugee Convention?
• What challenges are faced by UNHCR, other international institutions and States in promoting ratification of the Convention and how can these be addressed?
• In what ways, and on what basis, does UNHCR operate in non-signatory States? How does it implement its mandate of international protection? How do non-signatory States influence the understanding and implementation of this mandate?
• How do local courts and legal aid providers in non-signatory States engage with international refugee law norms and principles? Under what circumstances and for what reasons is the Refugee Convention used?
• What advantages and disadvantages are there for civil society operating in non-signatory States?

W dniach 9-10 czerwca 2021 r. odbędą się online warsztaty pt. "International Human Rights Courts and Bodies at the Edge of the Climate Tipping Point". 

Wystąpienia mogą dotyczyć zwłaszcza następujących tematów:

- The distinction between present harm and risk of harm.

- Climate litigation and the greening of human rights.

- Non-justiciable rights in climate litigation.

- Rights of non-humans and future generations in climate litigation.

- Climate litigation in the context of vulnerable segments of the population.

- The problems pertaining to transboundary climate harm, jurisdiction, causation, attribution and remedies in human rights law

- The convergence and divergence between climate justice concerns and human rights-based climate litigation.

- Aspects of decolonization and TWAIL in climate litigation.

- The legitimacy of international courts and bodies in addressing the climate crisis.

- Methods of legal interpretation in international human rights-based climate litigation.

- Dynamics of legal mobilization in climate litigation.

- Reactive human rights-based climate litigation – i.e. human rights complaints concerning wind farms and climate policies.

Call for papers: Should Wealth and Income Inequality Be a Competition Law Concern? (Amsterdam, maj 2021 r.)

W dniach 20-21 maja 2021 r. w Amsterdamie odbędzie się konferencja pt. "Should Wealth and Income Inequality Be a Competition Law Concern?". 

Zagadnienia, które mają zostać poruszone w czasie wydarzenia to m.in.

- To what degree does market power actually contribute to inequality? 

- Which market characteristics (e.g. monopsony power) may contribute to more, and which to less inequality? 

- Which market practices (e.g. price discrimination) may bring about inequality and under which conditions? 

- Would more active competition law enforcement lead to more equality? 

- Should competition law be enforced more vigorously in labour markets? 

- Are other policies such as fiscal policy not better suited to address inequality? 

- If competition law is an appropriate tool to address inequality, how could concerns of inequality be integrated into the current paradigm, especially with respect to its emphasis on efficiency? 

- Is the promotion of efficiency itself not enough to enable more equality? 

- Do abrupt surges in inequality, such as the one caused by covid-19, necessitate temporary modifications to competition rules or/and their enforcement? 

- How does inequality interact with other public interest concerns in competition law such as sustainability? 

- What institutional obstacles exist to the integration of inequality into competition law enforcement? 

- Would this integration require a revision of competition law’s deeper foundation and its economic constitutional embedding? 

- Are there differences in any of these respects between the European Union, its individual Member States, and the United States? 

Zgłoszenia (abstrakt o objętości min. 1500 słów) należy przesyłać do 31 stycznia 2021 r. na adres j.broulik@uva.nl.

Przewidywana jest publikacja pokonferencyjna.

Konferencja odbędzie się w trybie online lub hybrydowym. W tym drugim przypadku, uczestnicy będą mogli ubiegać się o częściowe dofinansowanie kosztów podróży i zakwaterowania.
